Roger was born on the magical Island of L’ile de la Cite located in the heart of the French capital of Paris, France. His family was dirt poor. His father, Adam, was not a good man, preferring the company of loose women, drinking, and smoking instead of his own beautiful family. Roger’s mother often was the only breadwinner in the family.
There never was any money to buy clothes, it was extremely embarrassing to wear those Salvation Army clothes that were already completely drained of any life before they reached the venerable institution. Many days there was no food to eat, but through it all, Roger seemed to be hopeful that the future would be more promising.
Thankfully, at that time, Paris was very rich with intellectual and artistic events, so Roger was able to see many great theater productions for a minimal cost standing behind the paying sitting customers. Also, there were those fabulous Hollywood movies that helped take one’s mind to another world. In the darkness of the theater, lived many movie stars!
